Prior to Your First Treatment
Please wear loose fitting clothing that easily goes up to your knees and elbows.
Your first appointment at Resonation Acupuncture will last about 75-90 minutes (subsequent visits usually last 60-75 minutes). It is best if you do not come to your appointment on a full or empty stomach.
You will need to complete the Health History questionnaire prior to treatment. For your convenience and to save time, you may download the questionnaire, complete it in advance and bring it with you to your appointment.
Initial Interview
The first 30 minutes, will include a review of the information you provided on your health history questionnaire. We will also explore your current physical, emotional, and lifestyle choices and address any current health concerns.
This verbal intake along with looking at your tongue and feeling your pulses on both wrists will help formulate a Traditional Chinese Medical diagnosis upon which your treatment will be based.
A course of treatment will be designed to meet your specific needs. This may include acupuncture, sound and vibration therapy, and herbs, along with other forms of care.
Treatments
After the initial interview, you will have the opportunity to lie down and relax. If you tend to get cold lying still, a heat lamp will be turned on and placed over your feet to help keep you warm. Extra blankets and pillows are also available.
The sound and vibration therapy is included in the treatment. If your treatment protocol includes acupuncture, approximately 1 to 10 acupuncture points will be wiped with alcohol and hair thin, sterile, disposable needles will be gently inserted. Usually the patient feels little or no discomfort. The needles will be left in for 20 to 35 minutes. During this time, you will be checked to ensure your comfort level.
Most people find the treatment very relaxing and many meditate or fall asleep. Should you feel any discomfort, you are encouraged to speak up; your comfort is of the highest priority.
At the end of the rest, the needles are removed and you may be given an herbal prescription with instructions. You may also be given dietary recommendations. We will then discuss a treatment plan for the continued care of your health concerns.
After Your Treatment
Plan to take it easy after your treatment.
Sometimes after receiving an acupuncture treatment you may feel slightly light headed. If that is the case, please sit until you feel better. In a few minutes you will feel relaxed and clear-headed.
Herbal prescriptions are intended for the person for whom they are prescribed. Do not give herbal formulas to anyone else.
Very rarely, symptoms may become worse for a while following an acupuncture treatment. This is often a sign that previously dormant conditions are being awakened so that healing can occur. This should pass quickly. If you have any questions or concerns at any time, please contact Katie.
